Link Aggregation

Link Aggregation: using multiple links in parallel to increase bandwidth. Creates resilience because if one link is lost it still works (with reduced bandwidth). It can be used between switches for Core / Backbone or between switch and server. It uses a protocol such as Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) to negotiate the bundling of the links.

Cisco call it EtherChannel and HP call it Trunking (confusingly, Cisco use Trunking to mean VLAN tagging)
