ITU-R BT.2100 recommendation specifies the image parameter values for high dynamic range television for use in production and international programme exchange. It takes resolutions and frame rates from both Rec 2020 and Rec 709. This will allow HDR to be applied to normal HDTV.

It includes PQ (Perceptual Quantizer) and HLG (Hybird Log Gamma) as well as system colorimetry, reference viewing environment and signal format for luminance and chrominance. It includes 2 options for signal format:
Non-Constant Luminance Y’C’BC’R (where the signals Y’ R’-Y’ and B’-Y’ are formed after gamma correction). This is the same as normal HDTV (Rec 709).

Constant Intensity ICTCP. This is new system where the components are derived in a way that more closely matches the way the 3 types of cones cells in the eye (which provide human color vision) respond to light of different frequencies. The result is better colour rendition, and better separation between the brightness and colour information (which improves the sharpness of the colored areas of the picture in cases where the color difference signals are bandwidth limited – for example with 4:2:2 transmission).
