Baseband

The term Baseband was originally used to refer to the information-carrying modulating signal which would be impressed on an RF carrier frequency in a transmitter, and be recovered from that carrier-frequency in a receiver. It’s usage has now changed a little and “baseband” is sometimes used to refer to the sample values of audio and video, or interconnection standards such as SDI or AES3 which may be transported over a telecommunications network using a transport protocol such as IP.
