AES-11; defines the use of AES-3 to distribute audio clock, the timing signals required to keep digital audio sources synchronous. Sometimes referred to as DARS (Digital Audio Reference Signal)

IP based audio standards such as AES-67 or SMPTE ST 2110-30 or 31 use PTP, rather than DARS to maintain synchronism across the asynchronous IP network. SMPTE ST 2059 describes how to generate DARS from PTP using the concept of the SMPTE Epoch.
